With Ryan Barry showing his experience all day the day was highlighted by wins to Nathan Howard and Breyton Davison. These two achieved their very first wins in quarter midgets on a day that passing was very difficult. Ben Le Cren also started to get back into the groove with a solid days racing. With a fastest off the back format for the day it allowed everyone an opportunity to shine.
Race one saw Nathan and Breyton start off the front row. Ben and Ryan were off the back. Nathan quickly took off from the front and despite challenges from Ryan stayed in front to gain his first win. he was followed home by Ryan, Breyton and Ben.
Race two saw Ben and Breyton get caught on the start and Ryan shot through up the inside to take an early lead. Breyton put in a great display of driving to be not far behind closely followed by Ben and Nathan.
Race three saw Nathan again off the front and again showed his speed by taking his second win of the day. Ryan Barry again showed his experience by coming through to take second followed by Breyton and Ben.
This meant that points from the three races saw Ben starting off pole for the feature with Breyton in beside him on two. Nathan after his two wins starting off three and Ryan’s consistency starting him off the back on grid four.
The feature started with Ryan attempting another pass down the inside which put him to the back of the field. Breyton quickly took advantage of his front row start to establish a lead. Ryan slowly worked his way through the pack with a great pass on Ben to get him into second. As the laps wore down some nervous parents were hoping for the chequered flag to allow our second rookie driver to gain his first win of the day. With Ryan Barry applying pressure to Breyton he held on against his more experienced rival to take his first win. Ben came home in third with Nathan following them home. A great days racing was had and some lessons learnt for a couple of drivers. The closeness of racing will make the rest of the season something to look forward to as the other drivers get ready and join the battle.
Next up is the opening Springs practice on Saturday. Please be there by 12 to allow practice to get underway at one. The next day we are off to Waharoa for opening day down there.
A committee meeting is scheduled for Tuesday night at Seaco. We will also do some more work on the club
