With the exception of go-karts and Motocross until recently, there has been no motorsport available in NZ to cater for the young fans keen to experience oval dirt track racing. Now it is here …… and it’s here to stay…the KiwiKidz Quarter Midget Club.

The Quarter Midgets are well scaled down versions of Midgets featuring much of the componentary that is unique to this form of auto racing, they cater for girls and boys from 8 years up to 15 years of age. The motors that these racecars use are from a 200cc Honda single cylinder motorcycle. Many people have seen them run regularly at Western Springs and they visit many other tracks from Whangarei in the north to Ruapuna (Christchurch) in the south, throughout a season that runs from October through to May.

You may think these kids don't have the skills to put on a show but that couldn't be further from the truth, lapping at just over 4 seconds slower than the midget section these kids provide some wheel to wheel action and with a field of up to 15, cars there is always some great racing to be seen.

Keep an eye on these kids in years to come, they are our future champions....

There are THREE basic concepts that the Club supports:

1. SAFETY. This is number one on our list, as motorsport is known to be dangerous. In actual fact, when the basic guidelines and rules for safety are enforced, racing is probably safer than many other sports. Driver’s apparel and safety equipment is equal to that worn by all Speedway Midget drivers and Club officials take care to scrutineer the car before racing or practice takes place.
2. RACECRAFT. Learning to drive is only part of what it takes to become a good race driver, learning to win and lose is just as important.
3. FAMILY. The Club’s intention is to promote and foster driving skills and fair play, in a friendly, family orientated environment. At this level of Speedway, the whole family is involved with Mum, Dad, brothers and sisters having a role to play.
