29/1/2012 Update:
We were a a few cars down in numbers today and the weather was rather strange for the end of January... one minute we had t- shirts on and then the next minute the cold air came and sweat shirts back on. The atmosphere amongst the kids on and off the track was relaxed. For the first 3 races the track was watered prior to going out.
Race one had Kelsi Watts 21a and Nathan 71a off the front, but it wasn't long before Ben Le Cren 14a, overtook them as he got good traction on the outside and passed them all, Nathan still holding the pole line tried to keep with Ben who was still running the high line, but had to settle with 2nd overall. There was also a good battle between Hayden Greenhalgh 22a and Kelsi for 3rd and fourth position with Kelsi holding off Hayden to claim 3rd. Race 2 Morgan had better luck with his car running and drove well. Ben got a good start and continued infront to the end, Morgan 9a who also had front row had a good distance between him and the others as Nathan Howard had to make his way around Kelsi and Hayden, it was great watching the 3 racing, Nathan slipped pass to claim 3rd overall. Meanwhile cadet Jakeb le Cren 41a who was gridding up at the back, had to watch from the infield after running out of fuel. Race 3 and all the kids showed again, some great racing, this time all the cars finishing, Nathan took a good start and managed to stop Ben from passing him to calm 1st, Ben 2nd and Hayden 3rd. The feature was the last race of the day and it was dusty, unfortunely Kelsi who had driven well all day spun and the car would not restart. with highest points Ben and Nathan started off the front, but the green car (Ben) was too fast and claimed the win, followed by 71 Nathan and 22 Hayden. As usual all smiles on faces as the kids played ball after the days racing.
23/1/2011update: (Rest of Les Behere races now on 4th March 2012)
We headed of to Waharoa for another summers day racing (Les Behere Trophy day), but this was not meant to be with 9 cars lined up it started to rain, off onto the slippery track, most of the kids did well with the track conditons, and there was no incidents as they raced on the wet track, tearoffs been torn off at every opportunity. If you went a little too high you lost your position from spinning wheels too much, pole line had far more traction. Race two it was just too wet and the whole meeting was cancelled, wet and muddy the kids still had smiles as the played hide in seek in the long grass while parents started to pack up. This meeting for the Kiwikidz will now be held later in the season. Meanwhile back in Auckland the Club Car was on display at the Springs Promotion display at the Kumeu Hot Rod Show (2 day event).
16/1/12 update:
Over the last week Springs and Waharoa got cancelled due to too much rain, so the kids have had a little break and a few families have headed off to have a holiday. But on 15th Jan the Sun shone for almost the entire days racing at Rosebank Speedway. Nathan Howard in 71 had a blinder of a day winning all 4 races. Race one saw Nathan get to the lead followed by Hayden Guptill and Ben Le Cren. Race 2 Nathan again got in front of the pack, Hayden Greenhalgh 22a did well too hold of Hayden Guptill and Ben Le Cren in Heat 2 to get a second as he crossed the finish line. Race 3 Nathan got a good start from Hayden Guptill (both on front row) who finished in second followed by Ben. It rained just before the feature changing the track conditions, 71a and 27a were top points so got the front grids, Hayden Guptill 27a unfortunely as he came out for the feature the car just stopped, so he was unable to complete the race, this opened up the opportunity for the rest of the field. results were 71 - 1st followed by 14a and 22a. We had three cadets out that day and it was great to see Zeon Mc Nabb 4a finishing some races without engine problems, all 3 were getting faster, David Pellow 7a in the feaure ran out of tear off and had to pull ino the infield, but he had done well in all the heats, Jakeb LeCren 41a had his best result finishing 4th in the feature. Check out our results page for the season so far.
5/1/12 update
So far we have had 7 meetings at Springs and only one rain date, which is pretty amazing considering amount of rain Auckland has had over the last month. The kids have raced well showing some really good skills out on the track. 7 different quarter midget drivers have had a chance to stand on the podium (1st, 2nd or 3rd overall in points) this season so far. The points have been very close, this is because of the close racing skills of the kids. The podium has been a great opportunity for the children to thank their sponsors, and learn a bit of public speaking. Kiwikidz next meeting is Sat 7th at Springs followed by racing at Waharoa and Rosebank later in Jan.
- Boxing Day... a big welcome to our 2 Nelson based Quarter Midgets Jay 73c (10yrs) and Jayedan 72c (9yrs) who are here in Auckland until 7th Jan. We also welcome our new Auckland Based Driver Zeon Mc Nabb in 4a (13 yrs). We now have 3 rookies out on the springs track (identified by their yellow ribbon).Boxing day we had 12 kiwikidz cars gridded up, the field looked good and as usual some good fast racing. Race 1 had Nelson based Jayedan and Auckland Kelsi on front row, but Nathan 71 was far to fast and came from the very back to win the race, passing cars he realised quickly to stay low to avoid the wet patchs that were up mid to high track. Breyton in no.67 was right behind him, trying everything to pass Nathan, this was very excting hard racing to watch. Mean while in the mid pack a few of the drivers did get caugt up inthe wet, but it wasn't long before they were bunched up fighting for positions. With a very long wait before their second race the track conditions were bound to be different, much drier and slicker. 71 and 14 had front row followed by 67 and 27 so this was bound to be a good exciting battle, but the green car 14 just took off, leaving the rest of the field to show some really good exciting close racing with positions changing throught out the 6 lap race. As per the first race it was hard to focus as from front to back all had good battles to watch. Both races are added together to give total points and as usual, because we have so many kids so skilled we have many equalling same points, we then have to look at how many cars each have passed from their original grid positions. After accessing grid positions and cars passed, 1st and 2nd had only 1 pt difference and the same with 3rd and 4th. Well done to all the kids as usual the action did not only come from the front but the mid pack always has alot of changes of positions and even our cadets seem to battle with each other.
- 17/12/11 - KAIKOHE & WHANGAREI. The track at Kaikohe was good inbetween the rain, however on race one 9 Morgan and 22 Hayden hit a wet patch causing them to hit the wall quite hard, this took them out for the rest of the day. The other races continued with the results being, 71 Nathan, followed by 27 Hayden and 7 David. The were due to race in Whangarei the next day with other drivers, but was cancelled due to the heavens opening up. Kidz now have 5 events at Springs starting on Boxing day, we also will ahve 2 Christchurch Quarter Drivers coming up 10year old Jay (73c) and Jayedan 9 years (72c).
- 11/12/11 - With a couple of Springs, Rosebanks and Waharoa dates completed all ready the Kiwikidz are well in truly into the season. There has been some very good close races at all the tracks. This coming weekend they head off to Kaikohe followed by Whangarei, then alot of racing at the Springs over the Christmas/new years. Check out our results page for the season so far.

First racing update for 2011/12 season....
With the first Springs practice about to hit us it is timely to cover off the first meeting at Rosebank. Bright colours seem to be required for sucsess if the opeing meeting of the year is anything to go by.
Nathan Howard in the newly recouloured orange Glendene Panelbeaters car took the opening win followed by Ben LeCren, Breyton Davison, Kelsi Wats, Jakob LeCren, David Pellow and Nicholas Wells. Race two saw the bright green Lube King car of Ben LeCren take the win followed by Nathan Howard, Kelsi Watts, Jakeb LeCren, David Pellowand Nicholas Wells with Breyton Davison having some engine problems and pulling out. Race three saw Ben agan take the win to be followed by Breyton Davison. In behind them Kesi Watts was having her best race ever managing to hold oput Nathan Howard for a number of laps until he managed to get by her. Ben took the win followed by Breyton, Nathan, Jakeb, David, and Nicholas with Kesli having a mechanical failure to end the race on the infield.
The feature saw Ben and Nathan off the front row. Ben shot out to the lead early to take the win followed by Nathan, Breyton, Jakeb, David and Nicholas with Kelsi having a spin on the last lap to not make the finish. Was a great start to the season with seven cars and still Hayden Guptill and Morgan McHugh apearing at the Springs practices and Hayden Greenhaulgh to reappear after being at the Rosebank practices already. Also with son new drivers almost ready and practicing away it looks like the Kiwikidz Quarter Midgets are on the rise.
