Waharoa 15/4/12

10 drivers came out to drive on this sunny day.

Hayden Guptill was on fire all day and drove extremely well winning all 3 races and overall points, showing the others how to drive on a rough track.

Morgan McHugh also drove extremely well all day and did manage in one of the races to hold off Hayden for a while, but made one little mistake giving enough space for Hayden Guptill to slip through, Morgan took second place in all 3 races and overall points.

Hayden Greenhalgh raced consist all day with good results including 3rd in race 3, giving him enough points to claim 3rd overall from Ben Le Cren who was one point behind.

It was also great to see Kelsi Watts race against the boys at Waharoa, her first race she lead for the first lap only to spin out. Young David Pellow's eyes lit up with delight as he pulled his marble for his first grid position, only to have car problems in the first race, but came back on fire and ready to race on the other 2 even picking up 3rd on heat 2. New rookie Shayne Minchington kept up well with the pack and passed a couple of cars. Jayden Busch first two heats were his better races and picked up a 3rd in race 1. Jakeb Le Cren had two good heats keeping up speed with the pack but on his second heat he had fuel issues. It was also great to have young Nicholas wells back out in the 66 car, he kept a great line though out all races. A fun day for all.

Easter weekend

11 cars headed to Kaikohe for a 3 days of racing. What a show these kids put on ... the locals and officials giving lots of praise to the young drivers. Not only on the track but the way the spoke on the podium as well. With 3 days of sunshine at the Kaikohe Speedway track the kids managed to do 11 races, with 6 different race winners over the three days. The first day was front middle back ....overall points for KCC Challenage, and the kids right from the green flag till the end of every race put on some amazing passes. Benjamin Le Cren was a clear winner. Breyton Davison and Hayden Guptill tied, this meant they had to do a run off at the end of the day. With everyone cheering both drivers on they put on a good battle the results were....Overall points Ben 1st, Breyton 2nd and Hayden 3rd.

Camping at the track allowed all the familes to mix and mingle before and after racing, giving a great atmosphere for the whole weekend. They had Hoozier tyre tenpin bowling and Band for entertainment after racing. Our kids played well together finding their own entertainment.

Day 2 and 3. The 11 kids from the experienced to the new all drove with great skill, putting on some great racing, we had spin outs (experienced and new kids), wheels bouncing off and a couple of inexperienced hittiing the wall causing a lot of damage.... all dads on hand to try and get these kids back out. Sat/Sun were fastest of the back and even though no one won from the back the skill and passes as they tried and nearly made it, put on very exciting racing for the locals. Overall points were won by Ben winning followed by Morgan and Hayden.

Rookies:

11a Shayne Minchington... had his first crash, but showed great driving the next day coming back and over the weekend continued to in crease in speed over the 3 days.

7a David Pellow... spun out in one of the races after hitting water on the track, but our young fast 9 year passed quite a few cars over the weekend and finished 6th in a couple of the races.

41a Jakeb Le Cren... the youngest driver (8) got faster over the weekend and finished 6th in one of the races. However on the last day he hit the wall causing too much damage to continue. smiles still on face as he cheered on fellow drivers and his brother.

55a Jayden Bursch... he received a cold bucket of water for winning his first race, only new to the sport the 15 year old did well and won 2 races over the weekend. He showed great speed and passes.

Experienced:

9a Morgan McHugh.....raced well and picked up 2nd overall in points and topped the weekend by winning the last race of the weekend. (he also received a bucket of cold water as he did not get dumped for winnng his first race at Huntly the weekend prior)

21a Kelsi Watts....our only girl driver showed the boys how to drive with some great battles against the others. She completed all races with a great 5th placing in one of the races.

67a Breyton Davison... clocked at the speed of 87km by the local cops showed he was one of the fastest, he won 3 races over the weekend and picked up 2nd overall in the KCC Challenge. Unfortunely the last race he DNF with engine failure.

27a Hayden Guptill.... Picked up 3rd over all on the KCC Challenge and the 2 day overall points came 3rd. Hayden pushed hard all weekend with his car and won one of the races.

22a Hayden Greenhalgh... wasn't here on the friday, but came for the Sat/Sun, with technical problems on a couple of the races causing DNF's. Once dad got car sorted young Hayden was out there in the pack battling wheel to wheel and did well picking up a 4th in one of the races.

71a Nathan Howard.... got dumped with a bucket of water as a farewell from fellow drivers. We will miss our Nathan as he heads out of quarter into an adult section of racing. Nathan as usual gave it his best in all races  and won 2 races over the weekend.

14a Benjamin Le Cren.... was fast and constant the whole weekend, clocked by the local cops at 88km he was getting thought he traffic with good lines and speed, he won both the KCC Challenge and Overall points for the weekend and 2 wins (another with a bucket of cold water with first win at this track)

Huge thanks to Kaikohe Speedway for putting on a great event.

Well done to all the kids  and from the kids big thanks to all mums and dads!

New cadets - 11a Shayne Minchington, 55a Jayden Busch, 61a Corbin Anderson

March brief update

The kids have been putting on some spectucular racing over the last month and are due for a triple header this Easter weekend in Kaikohe.

Mid March we had Rosebank with weather fine 9 cars had a great day racing and it was great to have so many new cadets. It was a relaxed atmosphere and good close racing as usual to watch. 27 Hayden winning the feature, followed by 14 Ben and rookie 55 Jayden picking up 3rd.

At the end of the month we headed off for a youth day racing at Huntly for the Hoot Livestock Waikato champs, again their was some really good close racing, Morgan and Ben winning their first race at Huntly, and other heat was won by Hayden in 27. Hayden Greenhalgh rolled due to  a break on his car steering him towards the wall, but he is all okay. All hands were on board to get him out again for race 2. The racing was great to watch in all 3 races as there was battles and change of positions from the whole group of races from the experienced and cadets. Over all 1st 14, 2nd 71, 3rd 27.

The next morning we headed off to Waharoa to continue the les behere which we started back in January but had to cancel due to rain. Breyton Davison did well and won it again for his 3rd year, with 9 Morgan runner up followed by Nathan 71 in 3rd. However there was alot of action over the continued heat and feature, along with 27 Hayden rolling in the first heat, with too much damage he watch from the infield, luckly dad managed to fix car and he was out for the feature and on feature rookie Jakeb also had to watch from the infield from his shock breaking as he hit a rutt.

The kids then did two more races, reverse grid for Waharoa Club Champs. With yellow ribbons being removed from some of our new cadets (7a David Pellow and 55a Jayden Busch), it meant 9 were gridded up, this made it exciting to watch as cars passed each other only to be re-passed. Every driver completed the races the points were added up and we had a tie. 27 Hayden and 71 Nathan had to do a run off. This run off was spectucular to watch and one of the most exciting ones I have seen. The two kids showed great skill as they raced wheel to wheel then a swap of positions only to re-swap back. The crowd cheering both on. (both should be so proud as there racing was simply awesome to watch). Nathan won and jumped out giving his dad a huge hug, Hayden wrapping up second over all followed by 67 Breyton. An awesome two days racing by all.

Last night for season at Springs.

We were due to have 12 kids start the nights racing, but one was out with engine issues and other not feeling well. The rain stayed away, and Springs track had a different surface, but that did not deter the kids, they all put on some good close racing over the two heats, with the 2nd race 5 of them passing the finish line in a big bunch as they were coming up on one of our new cadets. There were a few holes but the kids seemed to enjoy them. Well done to all for a good seasons racing. All the kids that had done a full season at the Springs got to go proudly up on the podium and were presented a participation trophy/certificate from Springs promotions. (Thanks to promotion it made their day). Nathan Howard finished his last season at Springs,he will be missed by all next season. Nathan will continue the rest of the season in the Kiwikidz, but next year we will be hopefully be watching him in a TQ or F2.

We welcome our two new rookies 15 year Jayden and 13 years Corbin with their first go on the Western Springs track. We also have 12 year Shayne in training and will be joining the kids at some stage, as we still have many races from the south in Matamata to up north in Taipa still to go over the next few months.

29/1/2012 Update:
We were a a few cars down in numbers today and the weather was rather strange for the end of January... one minute we had t- shirts on and then the next minute the cold air came and sweat shirts back on. The atmosphere amongst the kids on and off the track was relaxed. For the first 3 races the track was watered prior to going out.
Race one had Kelsi Watts 21a and Nathan 71a off the front, but it wasn't long before Ben Le Cren 14a, overtook them as he got good traction on the outside and passed them all, Nathan still holding the pole line tried to keep with Ben who was still running the high line, but had to settle with 2nd overall. There was also a good battle between Hayden Greenhalgh 22a and Kelsi for 3rd and fourth position with Kelsi holding off Hayden to claim 3rd. Race 2 Morgan had better luck with his car running and drove well. Ben got a good start and continued infront to the end, Morgan 9a who also had front row had a good distance between him and the others as Nathan Howard had to make his way around Kelsi and Hayden, it was great watching the 3 racing, Nathan slipped pass to claim 3rd overall. Meanwhile cadet Jakeb le Cren 41a who was gridding up at the back, had to watch from the infield after running out of fuel. Race 3 and all the kids showed again, some great racing, this time all the cars finishing, Nathan took a good start and managed to stop Ben from passing him to calm 1st, Ben 2nd and Hayden 3rd. The feature was the last race of the day and it was dusty, unfortunely Kelsi who had driven well all day spun and the car would not restart. with highest points Ben and Nathan started off the front, but the green car (Ben) was too fast and claimed the win, followed by 71 Nathan and 22 Hayden. As usual all smiles on faces as the kids played ball after the days racing.

23/1/2011update: (Rest of Les Behere races now on 4th March 2012)
We headed of to Waharoa for another summers day racing (Les Behere Trophy day), but this was not meant to be with 9 cars lined up it started to rain, off onto the slippery track, most of the kids did well with the track conditons, and there was no incidents as they raced on the wet track, tearoffs been torn off at every opportunity. If you went a little too high you lost your position from spinning wheels too much, pole line had far more traction. Race two it was just too wet and the whole meeting was cancelled, wet and muddy the kids still had smiles as the played hide in seek in the long grass while parents started to pack up. This meeting for the Kiwikidz will now be held later in the season. Meanwhile back in Auckland the Club Car was on display at the Springs Promotion display  at the Kumeu Hot Rod Show (2 day event).

16/1/12 update:
Over the last week Springs and Waharoa got cancelled due to too much rain, so the kids have had a little break and a few families have headed off to have a holiday. But on 15th Jan the Sun shone for almost the entire days racing at Rosebank Speedway. Nathan Howard in 71 had a blinder of a day winning all 4 races. Race one saw Nathan get to the lead followed by Hayden Guptill and Ben Le Cren. Race 2 Nathan again got in front of the pack, Hayden Greenhalgh 22a did well too hold of Hayden Guptill and Ben Le Cren in Heat 2 to get a second as he crossed the finish line. Race 3 Nathan got a good start from Hayden Guptill (both on front row) who finished in second followed by Ben. It rained just before the feature changing the track conditions, 71a and 27a were top points so got the front grids, Hayden Guptill 27a unfortunely as he came out for the feature the car just stopped, so he was unable to complete the race, this opened up the opportunity for the rest of the field. results were 71 - 1st followed by 14a and 22a. We had three cadets out that day and it was great to see Zeon Mc Nabb 4a finishing some races without engine problems, all 3 were getting faster, David Pellow 7a in the feaure ran out of tear off and had to pull ino the infield, but he had done well in all the heats, Jakeb LeCren 41a had his best result finishing 4th in the feature.  Check out our results page for the season so far.
5/1/12 update
So far we have had 7 meetings at Springs and only one rain date, which is pretty amazing considering amount of rain Auckland has had over the last month. The kids have raced well showing some really good skills out on the track. 7 different quarter midget drivers have had a chance to stand on the podium (1st, 2nd or 3rd overall in points) this season so far. The points have been very close, this is because of the close racing skills of the kids. The podium has been a great opportunity for the children to thank their sponsors, and learn a bit of public speaking. Kiwikidz next meeting is Sat 7th at Springs followed by racing at Waharoa and Rosebank later in Jan.
  • Boxing Day... a big welcome to our 2 Nelson based Quarter Midgets Jay 73c (10yrs) and Jayedan 72c (9yrs) who are here in Auckland until 7th Jan. We also welcome our new Auckland Based Driver Zeon Mc Nabb in 4a (13 yrs). We now have 3 rookies out on the springs track (identified by their yellow ribbon).Boxing day we had 12 kiwikidz cars gridded up, the field looked good and as usual some good fast racing. Race 1 had Nelson based Jayedan and Auckland Kelsi on front row, but Nathan 71 was far to fast and came from the very back to win the race, passing cars he realised quickly to stay low to avoid the wet patchs that were up mid to high track. Breyton in no.67 was right behind him, trying everything to pass Nathan, this was very excting hard racing to watch. Mean while in the mid pack a few of the drivers did get caugt up inthe wet, but it wasn't long before they were bunched up fighting for positions. With a very long wait before their second race the track conditions were bound to be different, much drier and slicker. 71 and 14 had front row followed by 67 and 27 so this was bound to be a good exciting battle, but the green car 14 just took off, leaving the rest of the field to show some really good exciting close racing with positions changing throught out the 6 lap race. As per the first race it was hard to focus as from front to back all had good battles to watch. Both races are added together to give total points and as usual, because we have so many kids so skilled we have many equalling same points, we then have to look at how many cars each have passed from their original grid positions. After accessing grid positions and cars passed, 1st and 2nd had only 1 pt difference and the same with 3rd and 4th. Well done to all the kids as usual the action did not only come from the front but the mid pack always has alot of changes of positions and even our cadets seem to battle with each other.

  • 17/12/11 - KAIKOHE & WHANGAREI. The track at Kaikohe was good inbetween the rain, however on race one 9 Morgan and 22 Hayden hit a wet patch causing them to hit the wall quite hard, this took them out for the rest of the day. The other races continued with the results being, 71 Nathan, followed by 27 Hayden and 7 David. The were due to race in Whangarei the next day with other drivers, but was cancelled due to the heavens opening up. Kidz now have 5 events at Springs starting on Boxing day, we also will ahve 2 Christchurch Quarter Drivers coming up 10year old Jay (73c) and Jayedan 9 years (72c).

  • 11/12/11 - With a couple of Springs, Rosebanks and Waharoa dates completed all ready the Kiwikidz are well in truly into the season. There has been some very good close races at all the tracks. This coming weekend they head off to Kaikohe followed by Whangarei, then alot of racing at the Springs over the Christmas/new years. Check out our results page for the season so far.

First racing update for 2011/12 season....

With the first Springs practice about to hit us it is timely to cover off the first meeting at Rosebank.  Bright colours seem to be required for sucsess if the opeing meeting of the year is anything to go by.

Nathan Howard in the newly recouloured orange Glendene Panelbeaters car took the opening win followed by Ben LeCren, Breyton Davison, Kelsi Wats, Jakob LeCren, David Pellow and Nicholas Wells.  Race two saw the bright green Lube King car of Ben LeCren take the win followed by Nathan Howard, Kelsi Watts, Jakeb LeCren, David Pellowand Nicholas Wells with Breyton Davison having some engine problems and pulling out.  Race three saw Ben agan take the win to be followed by Breyton Davison.  In behind them Kesi Watts was having her best race ever managing to hold oput Nathan Howard for a number of laps until he managed to get by her.  Ben took the win followed by Breyton, Nathan, Jakeb, David, and Nicholas with Kesli having a mechanical failure to end the race on the infield.

The feature saw Ben and Nathan off the front row.  Ben shot out to the lead early to take the win followed by Nathan, Breyton, Jakeb, David and Nicholas with Kelsi having a spin on the last lap to not make the finish.  Was a great start to the season with seven cars and still Hayden Guptill and Morgan McHugh apearing at the Springs practices and Hayden Greenhaulgh to reappear after being at the Rosebank practices already.  Also with son new drivers almost ready and practicing away it looks like the Kiwikidz Quarter Midgets are on the rise.

New Season Almost Here PDF Print E-mail

Monday, 29 August 2011 20:09

With less that two weeks before the start of the new season and cars being worked hard on over the off season it is time for a brief preview of the coming season.

Nathan Howard is close to being ready with a new look to the 71 car.  Ben LeCren is joined this season by little bother Jakeb.  Jakeb made a couple of appearences at Waharoa last season and is fizzing ready to go.  Morgan McHughs car has been stripped down and is ready to be put back together.  Hayden Guptills car is in the same state, unfortunately there will be a delayed start to the season with a broken ankle.  Breyton Davison is close to being ready as well.  Hayden Greenhalgh is ready to go after only picking up the ex Matt Leversedge late last season from Christchurch.  Nicholas Wells car is on the back to race ready after his altercation with the walll at Kaikohe.  Kelsi Watts will be returning after missing the later part of last season.  Young David Pellow has been out practicing on the farm in the ex Andrew Hanson car that he run the last two meetings of last season.  Corbin Anderson is ready to join the club and I am sure he is looking forward to his debut.  With Dillon Cooper having purchased the ex Corey Nichols 18 car he will be a welcome edition to the club.  Complleting the feild will be the ex Bittany Orr car which is now based in Whakatane.

With the Western Springs and Rosebank road calendars now complete we are just waiting on the Waharoa Calendar before soting out the final details.

For those cars that are ready we have three noise testing and practices at Rosebank Rd Speedway on September 10, 17 and 24.  These are a great oppourtunity for all the newer kids to get some laps when there are not many cars on the track.  New drivers please contact Paul LeCren our training officer 09 833 4128 and he will come along and assist in helping you to get started.  Remember that to run at Rosebank you need to have your car Greensheeted, have your licence and also join there club.  Auckland Speedway Riders Club have this year kindly reduced Quarter Midget fees in half so join upand go racing.

With Kaikohe at Easter confirmed for the Kiwikidz it is a good time to book this into your calendars.  With 9 races over three days and staying at the track it is one of the highlights of our season.  Also the open day is hoping to be held again at Waikaraka Park over the Christmas break.  It will be great to see the big smiles from all the kids like we had last season as they get out of the training car after their first ever drive.

Also our training car is available for drives at Rosebank Rd so if you are intersested in getting into Quarter Midgets please call any member of the committee to organise a drive.

With a dodgy forecast, five hardy Quarters headed their way up to Taipa for the traditional end of year race meeting.  With the weather deteriorating the further north we got, nervous times were ahead as to weather we would go racing over the weekend.  First stop was at the track to drop the cars off so as to secure our favorite pit spot.  Then it was off the traditional Friday night dinner at the Manganui Fish Shop.  With all five familes having a feed as the rain lashed about us.

Saturday morning we woke with the rain still here but not to hard.  From the house where three of us were staying we had a fantastic view of the Bay.  We could see the rain was at the track still so we stayed at home a bit longer.  The Howards headed to the track and we soon got the call to say head across the bridge to the track as they were going to try to go racing.  The one thing you can never say about the club at Taipa is that they will give up on racing.  When we arrived the four wheel drives and tractors were out on the track getting the track ready for racing.

The cars were scrutineered and the grid draw done.  Anticipation was high as the kids were ready to race.  But then a shower passed over the track, some more track prep went on and then the final nail in the coffin for the days racing was a heavy shower that passed over the track.  SO we packed the cars up all ready to come back tomorrow and go racing then.

Back to the house for dinner.  Once dinner was completed the Howards arrived over and as we settled in to watch last years Rosebank racing the kids played away for hours having a great time.  Finally it was time for bed so we could be at our best for racing tomorrow.

Sunday dawned and the winterless north could have been true as it was a beautiful day.  The usual drivers briefing was had but with the famous tree in the pits having fallen down the week before in a storm it was a funny look.  Out the kids wend for race one.  Hayden Guptill took and early lead followed by Nathan Howar, Morgan McHugh, Hayden Greenhalgh and David Pellow doing his second ever meeting.  Hayden maintained his lead with Morgan making his way up into second soon to be followed by Hayden Greenhalgh, Nathan and David.  They finished the race in that order.

Race two saw Morgan take an early lead followed by Hayden Greenhalgh, Nathan, Hayden Guptill and David.  Soon Nathan had prgressed up into second followed by Hayden Guptill who soon after this pulled to the infield.  A lap or so later saw Hayden Greenhalgh make it a pair of Haydens on the infield.  Morgan out in front was able to hold off all Nathans efforts to take the win form Nathan and David getting his first ever podium finish in a race.

As the two Haydens arrived back in the pits Haydens Guptills car was an easy fix.  After some investigations it was found that a couple of seperate issues had caused a engine failure.  A quick discussion was held amongst the club members and when it was revealed that there was a spare engine in Steves trailer a decision was made to change the engine so Hayden could continue to go racing.  This moment reminded me of the engine being pulled out of Jarrod Guptills car at Taipa 6 years ago as the club then also swarmed around to get Jarrod back on the track.  It is great to see half a dozen people around a quarter Midget all doing there part to change the motor.  Once the motor was changed and started it was a quick check to see how many races we had till we were next out.  It was a pleasant surprize to see that we still had ten races to go.  It showed the great spirit within the club and meant that Hayden could get back out there.

Race three saw Hayden Guptill again quickly to the infield with Morgan taking the lead with Nathan, Hayden and David following.  Nathan resumed where he left off in the last race and threw everything at Morgan.  Nathan was getting closer and closer to making a pass around the outside when they caught up to David, who was staying nicely on the pole line, Nathan had the presence of mind to box Morgan in and go on to take the win from Morgan, Hayden and David.  There were smiles all around the club when Hayden Greenhalgh crossed the line making all our efforts to get his out there worth while.

After a plug change Hayden Guptill took an early lead a pulled away as the race progressed.  In behind him Nathan and Morgan resumed there meeting long battle.  They were followed by Hayden Greenhalgh and David.  Hayden Guptill took out the final race off the season followed by Nathan, Morgan, Hayden Greenhalgh and David.

Ryan Occoner after a great display of Sprintcar driving and wheelstands cam up and talked to the kids and present a pair of race gloves to Morgan who had won the weekend from Nathan and Hayden Guptill.  It was then off to Prizegiving at the track in which all five kids took home a prize.  Again the boys did a great job of speaking at the prizegiving in front of a big crowd.

Next on the agenda is our club prizegiving which is to be held at http://panmure.extremeedge.co.nz/extreme-edge-panmure.shtml  .  Click on the link to get directions to prizegiving this sunday and have your climbing shoes on.

With a sunny day dawning it was off to Rosebank for last time this season.  It was great to see a new family joining the club with young David Pellow running the ex Andrew Hanson car for the first time.  Also Kyle Davison was running loder brother Breytons car for the day.  An additional bonus was the return of Hayden Greenhalgh after breaking his arm, it was Haydens debut in the ex Matt Leversedge car with great looking signwriting and a change of number to 22.

Firstly Hayden, Kyle and David got an opportuntiy to have a quick run before the meeting to get a taste of Rosebank before they get put into the racing enviroment.

Race one saw Hayden Guptill get a quick start off the front row followed by Hayden Greenhalgh.  Hayden Greenhalgh soon had to pull off with tearoff issues.  Ben LeCren worked his way up into second followed by Morgan McHugh, Nathan Howard, Kyle Davison and David Pellow.  The cars stayed this way to the chequered flag.

Race 2 saw Ben take off from the front row into the lead.  Hayden Guptill managed to sneak up into second followed by Nathan, Morgan, Hayden Greenhalgh, Kyle and David.  As third to seventh settled into an order the battle was up front with Hayden Guptill trying everything to get round Ben.  Ben was not going to give up possesion of the pole line.  Ben held on to take the win from Hayden Guptill, Nathan, Morgan, Hayden Greenhalgh, Kyle and David.

Race three saw Hayden Guptill and Ben tied on points for first and Nathan and Morgan tied on points for third, so with feature start positions up for grabs everything was set up for a great race.  As the green flag dropped and the boys zipped into turn one, all of a sudden the boys were three wide, from my position in the tower it looked like it was either going to end really good or really bad.  Luck for the boys Hayden Guptill managed to come from grid four and pop out in front as they came out of turn one.  Nathan pulled in behind him.  Morgan had a spin and dropped to the back but managed to keep the car going.  The race finished with Hayden winning with Nathan in second followed by Ben, Hayden Greenhalgh, Kyle, Morgan and David.

The feature saw Ben take of at the start with Hayden settling in behind with Nathan, Morgan, Hayden, Kyle and David in behind.  This looked like it was going to be a repeat of race two with Hayden trying everything to get around Ben.  The positions looked settled until with a couple of laps to go Ben and Hayden came up on David and Ben drifted slightly high to allow Hayden to sneak on through to the lead.  Hayden Guptill kept the lead for the last couple of laps followed home by Ben, Nathan, Morgan, Hayden Greenhalgh, Kyle and David.

It was a great way to finish the season at Rosebank with two new driver having their debut and doing a great job.  Some close racing and a great feeling in the club looking forward.  Next up is a trip down to Waharoas prizegiving this Saturday night followed by some hardy kids heading up to Taipa to finish the season.

The Quarter Midgets returned to the Springs for the New Zealand Midget Champs.  Race one saw a good start from Hayden Guptill from the second row gaining the lead early on.  Morgan McHugh had a half spin which spread the field out.  Meanwhile up front the story of the race was a great battle between Hayden and Breyton Davison.  Again and again Breyton tried to get past Hayden, but Hayden had just enough legs to take the win in the opening race.  They were followed home by Nathan Howard, our Christchurch visitor Nathan Clive, Ben LeCren and Kelsi Watts with Morgan ending up on the infield.

Race two saw  Ben take an early lead. Hayden made another good start from the second row to follow Ben around.  Hayden got a run off turn two and Ben slipped of the pole line just enough forHayden to make the pass up the inside to take his second win of the night.  He was followed home by Ben, Nathan Howard, Morgan, Breyton, Nathan Clive and Kelsi Watts.

Sunday saw five cars converge on Wahaora for their annual Ronald McDonald House Charity day to raise funds for this great charity.

Wilth Nathan Clive hoping to emulate his cousin Matt Levesedge with a win in his first visit to Waharoa.

With a highly successful open day which saw 19 kids have their first drive in a Kiwikidz Quarter Midget over the Christmas break it was a busy period for everyone.  The open day say Breyton Davison take out the time trial but Nathan Howard, Ben LeCren and Hayden Guptill were all within 0.2 of a second to Breytons lap time.  Nathan Howard took out the pole shuffle and the feature.  The last lap of the feature was run three wide With Nathan just taking it out from Matt Leversedge and Hayden crossing the line side by side.  Hayden Guptill taking out the handicap race at the end of the day.  Hopefully we will see some of the kids racing quarters in the not to distance future.

Wohoo my first drive                  The Three wide Feature finish

With Hayden Guptill, Ben LeCren, Nathan Howard and Breyton Davison all taking wins at the Springs over this period it has been some close racing there as well.

Our return to Rosebank after Christmas saw Breyton Davison take out both heat with Hayden Guptill becoming the first person this season to win a second feature at Rosebank this season.  Last weekend saw Hayden take wins in both heats and the feature at Rosebank.

The Quarter Midget Open day at Waiakraka Park has been postponed until Sunday January 2.  It now starts with the practice at 9am with time trials begining at 9.30.

A practice was had and time trials were held with Mathew Levesedge from Christchurch the quickest but Ben Le Cren and Hayden Guptill were both within 0.2 seconds of Mathews time.  This will be interesting to see who can take it out on Sunday as we start again.

All driver that were booked in the training car have rebooked.  A number of calls were had all through the day with parents being badgered by excited kids wanting to know if the run in the Kiwikidz Club Quarter Midget was still happening.  We look forward to seeing everyone there on Sunday.  Many thanks to everyone for their paitence Yesterday as we attempted to beat mother nature.
